  • HOLLAND HOUSE GANGNEUG

During the Olympic games, the Holland House is the meeting place for Dutch fans, athletes, officials and sponsors. GOLDSMITH was asked to conceive a building concept for this ‘national house’ that can be relocated and re-used during future Games; A design for a modular floating building based on 800+ standard ISO containers. This simplifies the design, construction and transportation of the building tremendously. Together, the integrally produced modules form a flexible system, which is highly adaptable in size, function and configuration. At the same time the adaptability and quick turnaround time significantly reduces the environmental impact: it leaves no traces. The signature cascading container silhouette of the Holland House contains the Medal Ceremony Hall in its center, where winning Olympians are honored and concerts are held. 200+ soundproof hotel rooms, and transparent expo-, fan-, corporate- and broadcast areas on both ends encapsulate the hall. A public deck of special buoyant containers makes the building able to float on waterways, in close vicinity of the Olympic venues. From the XXII Olympic Winter games in Gangneung on, it will re-emerge every two years, strengthening a very specific and recognizable Dutch Olympic Legacy.
