  • HOLLAND HOUSE TOKYO

The Japanese – Dutch relationship is a special one starting with the known Dutch trading post Dejima, a fact which is common knowledge in Japan even today. This trading spirit translates to a contemporary version; an ensemble that purely consists of 40ft containers. The twin volumes of the Medal Ceremony Hall and the High Performance Centre will be strong and highly recognizable landmarks within the Tokyo skyline; two buildings that are composed with similar ‘building blocks’. Floating barges, a large collective deck, a volume made from stacked containers, steel frameworks, and an additional (climate)skin made from polyester tent sheets. Both buildings have a unique appearance due to the way these building blocks are set in and organized vertically. The volumes will be emphasized even more due to the free position on the water. Therefore these floating pavilions produce a panoramic quality for all spectators. Before-, during-, and possibly after the Olympics.
